What to Know When Buying a Home With Propane Heat
October 7, 2021Colder weather is just around the corner, which means it’s time to start preparing your home. A top priority heading into this season is making sure your propane system is ready to keep your home heated throughout winter. There are a few things you can be doing now to ensure your system doesn’t fail when temperatures drop.
Refill Your Tank
The first step is to ensure your propane tank is full. There’s nothing worse than trying to turn on your heat on that first cold day of the season, only to realize your tank is empty. Get ahead of the game and schedule your refill now so you don’t run into this issue! Anytime you need a refill, regardless of the weather conditions, your Premier team is here to provide exceptional, timely and courteous delivery to ensure that all of your propane needs are met.
Check Your System
Next on the list is to make sure your system is in good working order. Checking for possible leaks in your system will help confirm safety while it is in use. Whether you notice an issue or not, now would still be a great time to schedule a safety check since your system hasn’t been in heavy use in a few months.
In addition to checking a current system, did you install a new furnace or another appliance that utilizes propane over the summer months? If so, this would also call for a safety check. Let our professionals ensure everything is hooked up properly so you won’t run into any future issues.
Ensure Proper Accessibility
Your propane tank should remain easily accessible year round so our trucks and technicians can easily refill and maintain it. Before the ground becomes snow covered, make sure that there is a clear path to your tank without debris, brush, or weeds. Once winter weather does hit, you’ll want to keep that path clear of snow and ice so your tank can be accessed when you most need it.
Along with clearing a path to your tank, you should make sure that any ventilation on the outside of your home is clear of debris as well. Don’t forget to also clear snow and ice away from vents while you are out shoveling a path to your tank. Doing this regularly will help prevent any ventilation issues, which could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. If you do discover an issue with your ventilation system, you should stop running the appliance(s) that is causing the issue and contact either the appliance manufacturer or your propane company.
